Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa is a Luxury Hotel. We will therefore judge it that way. It is next to the Plataran Heritage Hotel but is completely separate. It consists of private villas with private pools and unobstructed views. It is located just 5 minutes from the Borobudur Temple. It is a hotel that in terms of service is in our absolute top 5.
The review below is our independent opinion. We assess various components with a system of a maximum of 10 points. The total score is assessed in a maximum 5 star rating. In general we only post reviews when we can give at least a 3 star rating. If it is lower, we will not place a hotel anyway. We think that is a waste of time. The price per night that we use is always of the high season because we never travel during the rainy seasons and most people are tied to holiday periods anyway.

About the location 10/10
The location of Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa is amazing. Not only are you within 5 minutes on one of the absolute highlights of Yogyakarta. You also look out on it. We are talking of course about the Borobudur Temple. From the Spa, for example, you have a beautiful view of the place, but also during breakfast and dinner you’ll have a clear view. From the airport you drive to your hotel in about an hour. But Plataran offers a complimentary shuttle service and the cars in which you are picked up are super luxury, have air conditioning and wifi, and a small fridge with cold drinks and snacks.
The Welcome 10/10
The Plataran offers a complimentary shuttle service and the cars in which you are picked up are super luxury, have air conditioning and WiFi, and a small fridge with cold drinks and snacks. We received a welcome letter in the car and on a small iPad we could find all the information about the Resort so that we could already look forward to our arrival. Once we arrived at the Resort we took placet on a comfortable couch while they checked us in. The General Manager introduced himself and welcomed us and he also brought with him some delicious cookies. There is several welcome drinks or we could opt for coffee. Nice.
From the Checking in everyone immediately addressed us with mr. Mark and Mrs. Judith and you know that the staff has been studying your names and is fully prepared for your arrival. That always feels great and helps you to feel right at home.
We were taken to our Villa by car and during the ride they told us where the Spa, the restaurant and the other facilities were located. Once we arrived at the room they also explained to us how the television and air conditioning worked, the coffee machine (very important) and the wifi (extremely important). All very nice and the service level is absolutely not self-evident at this pricing point.
Design and style 9/10
The resort is gorgeous. The villas are very private and have a beautiful and spacious design with a large comfortable seating areas both inside and outside. The resort is located on a hill which means that you have to climb some stairs, but you can also order a buggy if you want. The restaurant, the lobby and the Wellness Spa all overlook the Borobudur Temple and the view is amazing. The restaurant is designed in old Roman style white marble accompanied by French and Javanese influences. The combination is beautiful and tasteful.
The Villa 9/10
We have visited the following room.
Exclusive One Bedroom Villa with Private Pool 10/10
This villa has a beautiful view of the mountains and the rice fields from your bedroom. There is a Kingsize bed in the room and you’ll have a living area with a 46-inch LED TV and a large comfortable couch made of ribbed fabric. You are getting a cold and hot water system and a Nespresso machine and various cups to choose from.
Behind the Kingsize four-poster bed is a wide desk the width of the bed with multiple sockets to charge all your devices. There are two places to put and open your suitcase and these are next to the large wardrobe. The cabinet contains two kimonos, slippers and an ironing board and iron.
The bathroom is very large and has a toilet, freestanding bath and a large rain shower. The water is wonderfully warm and the temperature is easy to set. Furthermore, the room has a double sink and wide mirror so that you can be in the bathroom at the same time. A hairdryer is also available. In terms of design, the bathroom could have been designed a bit more special.
Facilities
Wifi & Electrical outlets: 10/10

The WIFI is perfect and super fast over the entire resort. The upload speed to our Google Drive was really very fast. There were enough sockets to charge everything and also at the bedside table. That you already have WIFI during the airport transfer is just that little bit extra why we rate it as perfect.
Swimming pools: 8/10
The hotel has one shared swimming pool. It is a beautiful and well-kept swimming pool near the restaurant. There are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. Yet few people will use it because of the private pools that most villas have. The private swimming pools are excellent in size and unobstructed in view and a great way to enjoy your time.
Fitness & Wellness: 8/10
We honestly don’t know if there is a fitness room present. We have mainly focused on relaxation. There are Yoga classes though in the morning. The Wellness & Spa is very good. Just the way we like it you receive an intake form where you can indicate whether you have allergies, certain parts of your body that require more or less attention and what your overall stress situation is. After that you can choose a scent and a massage oil. The massages are not cheap but also not expensive for a resort like this. The Spa also offers rose baths with views of the Borobudur Temple. A must do of course and it is utterly beautiful.
Restaurant options & Breakfast 9/10

The breakfast is overwhelming. There are several stalls where they focus on a certain kitchen. From Indonesian to an Egg station, Waffle station, Bread station. There are more than 15 different Juices to choose from and many options in general. You may also choose something a la carte, such as Eggs Benedict. And they offer you coffee and tea when seated.
A Floating Breakfast is of course also pretty good so we took that one day.
For lunch and dinner we can honestly say that the food is delicious and there are many options. The Chef is brilliant. All Western options are of course available, but you can also order full Indonesian rice tables. You can also have breakfast, lunch and dinner in your room, but the restaurant is very cozy.
Housekeeping & Staff 8/10

The room service is very good. Everything is clean and your coffee cups will be refilled. Nothing is forgotten really. What bothered us though was that the garden door of our Villa was almost 30 meters away. If someone knocked on the door (via the bell by the way) you had to yell to them that they could come. That sometimes took a few times before they heard us and came. A phone call would be a solution. Because we really don’t like yelling. They also offered an evening service in which they already lowered your mosquito net and switched on the lights while you were having dinner. Also they would replace your towels.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The best thing is that they all studied your name from arrival. The General Manager cares and also walked around the resort himself to occasionally ask how things were going, if everything was okay and if they could do anything else for you. Perfect and never disturbing. During our dinner the waiter introduced himself and made a short chat. Again, not a single awkward moment like we have in other places when the chat ends after ‘where you’re from?’.
Maintenance 9/10
Everything is very well maintained.
Price-quality 10/10
The Resort is not cheap for Indonesia. Nevertheless, for the location and the luxury and service that you can expect for this price, this hotel goes a few steps beyond. If you have something to celebrate or you have more to spend, we really recommend this Resort. You will never for a second believe that you have paid too much.
