#3 Santani Wellness Resort & Spa
Location:
36km east of Kandy – Sri Lanka
Description:
Santani Wellness Resort & Spa just breaths peace and tranquility and is one of the most relaxing places we have ever been. The resort is located on a mountain and has amazing views from every villa. When we visited Santani the weather was a bit moody but at Santani that means fog in the mountains and it’s just gorgeous. The villa’s are designed in a clean simple style but are super comfortable. 2 Other highlights at Santani are the food and the spa. The food is super healthy and so delicious. We tried the International and the Sri Lankan dinner and both were outstanding. The portions of especially the Sri Lankan dinner were pretty big so bring a big appetite. The spa offers the best treatments, sauna and steam bath. A good way to pamper yourself. The location is like I said before in the mountains which means it’s a bit remote in terms of tourist attractions nearby. The resort is to relax anyways. So we recommend to stay here a couple of days to get some relaxing in your Sri Lanka trip. You will love it!
Price:
€300 – €400 a night included fullboard

#2 Aarunya Resort
Location:
In between Kandy & Dambulla
Description:
Awarded with Winner Luxury Mountain Resort in 2019 Aarunya definitely deserved a visit and we weren’t disappointed. This resort is located in the mountains and has amazing views from all places. The pool is super stunning and a good place to watch the sunrise. This resort is a boutique one with at the moment only 5 villa’s. They are currently building a few new villas with pools, all of whom are going to be gorgeous. The villa we stayed in had everything we needed and was super comfortable. By far the best thing of this villa was the private jacuzzi on the deck. We loved to chill in there and watch the amazing views.
But our number one experience in Aarunya was the Sri Lankan night. We have been at many places but this is definitely one of our favourite nights. The Sri Lankan night started with a knock on our door, a member of the staff was bringing us our traditional skirts for the evening. After we made ourselves ready we were heading to the main restaurant where we got a Sri Lankan cocktail and the staff was coming with a big fire torch to lead us to the Sri Lankan restaurant.
This was actually a traditional local house they built on the resort grounds to let the guests experience the real Sri Lanka. In the Local restaurant the chef was already busy with preparing the food.
The evening would bring us a 9 course Sri Lankan dinner. The staff told us a lot about how the food is being prepared, how the people live and lived back in the days, we learned to play Carrom a board game people in Sri Lanka play a lot. And the food was so delicious and really helped us to get to know the Sri Lankan cuisine. After a shot of Sri Lanka Whiskey we called it a night. This was such an authentic and real experience we recommend everybody to do it when you are going to Aarunya it can not be missed.

#1 Wild Coast Tented Lodges
Location:
In Yala National Park
Description:
At first Sri Lanka doesn’t seems popular as a safari destination but we can say oh boy we were so wrong. Our stay at Wild Coast changed our minds 180 degrees. Wild coast is a lodge located within Yala National Park. Which means that there are elephant in the resort sometimes. This is what we got told once we arrived. We were sceptical at the least.. thinking.. yeah sure maybe once a year there is an elephant there.
We were staying in the Cocoon Pool Suite a gorgeous room with the most amazing furniture. We really like the style and every single detail was on point. Included with the rooms you have: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, pre dinner cocktail, dinner, laundry & 1 gamedrive per night. This concept is amazing, everything is arranged and that feels so relaxing. The chef is amazing we arrived and had a late 3 course lunch and a few hours later heading for dinner. But then an elephant wanted to join for Lunch haha.
The next day we woke up excited because we were going for our first gamedrive in the afternoon, but first heading for the breakfast. On the way we stood eye to eye with an elephant 10 meters from our room! He was drinking out of one of the ponds. It’s so special to meet wildlife in the wild instead of in a zoo. In the afternoon we had the most amazing gamedrive with a very experienced ranger Lauren and we got see four leopards. That’s amazing as you are definitely not guaranteed to see them on your visit. The combination of relaxing, luxury and the safari is the best. It was easily the best experience we had on our Sri Lanka trip and we can say we would recommend everyone to visit Wild Coast. You will never forget it!
Price:
From €700,- a night all inclusive + 1 game drive a night
